Most people will get their dryer-vent cleaned only when they have a reason (their dryer get very hot while working, the clothes don't get dry, there is a smoke/fire smell in the laundry room when the dryer is working, etc.).

We will clean the dryer-vent from the outside first, inside, and sometime, when the vent is very long and blocked, we will open it in the middle to be able to clean it all the way back and forth, and then connect it back. In such case, we do not use screw, because they penetrate the inside of the ducts and turn to be "lint trap" resulting in faster vent blockage. Instead, we use special aluminum tape to secure the vent connection.
