Question:

Why should I have my air ducts cleaned?

Over time, air ducts collect dust, allergens, and other pollutants that circulate throughout your home, impacting indoor air quality. Those with allergies, asthma, or respiratory conditions may be particularly sensitive to poor air quality. Regular duct cleaning can help reduce allergens, improve airflow efficiency, and lower energy costs.

Question:

How do air ducts become dirty?

Your HVAC system continuously recirculates air, drawing in pollutants such as dust, pet hair, smoke, and airborne chemicals. These contaminants accumulate within the ductwork over time, leading to decreased efficiency and compromised air quality.

Question:

How often should air ducts be cleaned?

The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends professional air duct cleaning every 3-5 years. However, certain factors, such as home renovations, pet ownership, or health concerns, may necessitate more frequent cleaning. If your ducts haven’t been cleaned within this timeframe, it is advisable to schedule a service.

We highly recommend conducting air duct cleaning before occupying a new home, after remodeling or renovation projects that generate significant dust (such as sanding new hardwood floors or drywall work), or during tenant transitions in rental properties to ensure a clean and healthy indoor environment.

Question:

How can I tell if my air ducts need cleaning?

Look for these signs to determine if a cleaning is needed:

  • Visible dust, debris, or mold inside vents or registers.

  • Increased allergy symptoms or respiratory issues indoors.

  • Noticeable musty odors from the duct system.

  • Recent home renovations that generated dust or debris.

  • It has been more than 3-5 years since your last cleaning.

Question:

What factors increase the need for air duct cleaning?

Certain conditions may warrant more frequent duct cleaning, including:

  • Poor indoor air quality.

  • Occupants with asthma, allergies, or respiratory conditions.

  • Recent home renovations (especially sanding floors or drywall).

  • Smoking indoors.

  • Pets that shed hair and dander.

Question:

Do you handle mold and mildew in air ducts?

Visible mold or mildew around vent registers and grilles does not necessarily indicate mold growth within the duct system. Our trained technicians thoroughly inspect the ducts to assess the presence of mold. If mold is found only on the exterior registers or at the duct openings, they will clean the affected areas and apply antibacterial and anti-mold disinfectants. However, if mold is detected deep inside the ductwork, they will provide photographic evidence and recommend appropriate remediation solutions, including referrals to our trusted mold remediation partners.

Important Notice: In some cases, mold and mildew issues may result from an underlying malfunction in your HVAC system. We recommend having your HVAC system inspected by a certified technician to identify and resolve the root cause before proceeding with air duct cleaning. Additionally, a follow-up inspection is advised six months after treatment to ensure no new mold or mildew has developed.

Question:

What is "Air Negativity Pressure Machine"?

The Air Negative Pressure Machine is a high-powered professional vacuum system that our technicians connect to the air duct ventilation system, specifically to the air supply (not the returns). This process creates negative pressure within the supply ducts, effectively drawing air through the system and directing dirt, dust, and debris into the vacuum. This ensures thorough removal of contaminants, leaving the duct system clean.

The use of this equipment is typically recommended when a visual inspection of the supply vents reveals signs of dirt and debris. Under normal HVAC operating conditions, with regular air filter replacements, the supply ducts and vents should remain clean. However, if dirt and debris are present in the supply ducts, it indicates that contaminants have bypassed the HVAC filter, traveling from the return ducts back to the supply vents. This suggests poor maintenance of the air duct system, requiring not only thorough cleaning of all return vents but also comprehensive cleaning of all supply vents (what we call Deep Cleaning Service).

Question:

What is the difference between "Standard" and "Deep" air duct cleaning?

Standard Cleaning Service - is a maintenance-level service designed for homeowners who regularly maintain their HVAC air duct system. This means having the system serviced every 3 to 5 years and replacing air filters consistently. When maintained at this frequency, the accumulation of dirt and contaminants remains within normal levels, requiring only a routine cleaning.

This service includes:

  • Cleaning the air supply ducts using the Air Negative Pressure Machine to remove dirt and debris efficiently.

  • Inspecting each return duct by opening all return grilles, assessing contamination levels, and cleaning the registers.

  • Using power tools, snakes, and brushes to clean every return duct thoroughly.

  • Replacing HVAC filters with new ones.

  • Cleaning the Plenum Box (Return Trunk) connected to the furnace (if accessible).

  • Ensuring all registers are properly closed and the HVAC system is running.

Deep Cleaning Service - if the HVAC air duct system has not been maintained in over 5 years, or has never been serviced, we recommend our Deep Cleaning Service to restore air quality and system efficiency.

This service includes:

  • A thorough inspection of all return duct grilles to assess contamination levels, and using power tools, snakes, and brushes to clean every return duct thoroughly.

  • For heavily contaminated supply vents, instead of relying solely on the Air Negative Pressure Machine, we open and thoroughly clean each supply vent using specialized power tools, snakes, and brushes, extending all the way to the furnace.

  • Cleaning the Plenum Box (Return Trunk) in the furnace (if accessible).

  • Sanitizing all return ducts and supply vents (floor vents as well, if applicable).

  • Ensuring all registers are properly closed and the HVAC system is functioning correctly after service completion.

  • Replacing HVAC filters with new ones.

  • Before-and-after photos to demonstrate the impact of the service.

This comprehensive approach ensures the removal of built-up contaminants, improving indoor air quality and HVAC performance.

Question:

Do you replace the HVAC filter as part of your service?

Absolutely! Regular replacement of HVAC filters is essential for maintaining optimal air quality and system efficiency. Depending on the type and grade of the filter, it should be replaced every 1,3 or 6 months, while reusable filters should be cleaned within the same timeframe.

We highly recommend keeping a spare filter on hand for added convenience. At the conclusion of our service visit, once the system has been thoroughly cleaned, we will replace the filter for each unit being serviced. Please make sure to provide a correctly sized filter that matches your furnace, as filter sizes can vary between systems.

If you're unsure of your system’s filter size, feel free to contact us. One of our experienced technicians will be happy to assist you over the phone and guide you through the steps to identify the correct filter size for your HVAC system.

Question:

How Can I Determine if the HVAC Air Duct Cleaning Was Performed Effectively and Properly?

There are several ways to evaluate the effectiveness of an HVAC air duct cleaning, but the most reliable method is a visual inspection before and after the service. To ensure full transparency, our technicians take sample photos (upon customer request at no additional cost) of selected ducts both prior to starting and after completing the cleaning.

These before-and-after images will be shared with you so you can clearly see the difference, demonstrating the condition of the ducts before service and the results afterward. You should expect to see thoroughly cleaned ducts, free from dirt, mold, and debris.

Question:

Do you use antibacterial and antimicrobial products to sanitize the ducts?

Yes, we do. Once the duct cleaning is complete, the technician will apply a green, environmentally friendly antibacterial and antimicrobial spray that is safe for both humans and pets. This disinfectant is carefully applied to reach deep into the serviced ducts, helping to prevent mold and mildew buildup, address microbial contamination, and control odors, particularly on nonporous surfaces such as those found in HVAC systems.

Question:

What is the cost of having my HVAC air duct system cleaned?

When contacting air duct cleaning companies for pricing, the following information is typically needed to provide an accurate estimate for your project:

  • The number of HVAC systems that require servicing at your property

  • The accessibility of each system, particularly if the furnace is located in a crawl space or other hard-to-reach areas

  • Floor supply vents as well as Low-Wall supply vents may also impact the project cost

At Ductor Clean Air, we strive to keep the process simple, transparent, and straightforward for our customers. When you reach out for a quote, we’ll ask a few basic questions to better understand the scope of the work and will make every effort to provide the most accurate cost estimate possible.

Feel free to contact us with any questions or if you need additional information.

Additionally, you can easily fill out the online form, providing all the requested information, and one of our team members will prepare an estimate for your project.

Question:

How much time will it take to clean my HVAC air ducts?

The time required to clean your HVAC air ducts depends directly on the number of HVAC systems that need to be serviced, and the total amount of vents. The more systems you have, the more ducts there are to clean, requiring additional effort. For most properties, which typically have between 1 to 3 HVAC systems, the entire process (from arrival to completion) usually takes between 2 to 6 hours, depending on various factors, including those mentioned above.

Question:

Do you handle any electrical or mechanical components of the furnace?

No, we do not handle any electrical or mechanical components of the furnace. Our technicians will simply open the furnace cover to clean and vacuum any visible dust and debris, remove the filter, and ensure the Plenum Box (Return Trunk), typically the dirtiest part of the system, is thoroughly cleaned. We will then replace the filter with a new one and close the furnace as it was originally.

If you require cleaning of specific furnace or condenser components (such as the furnace blower, condenser fan, etc.), you will need to contact a certified HVAC technician to disassemble, clean, reassemble, and test those parts to ensure proper operation.

Question:

Do you move furniture to access all vents?

For liability reasons, our company policy does not allow technicians to move furniture in order to access vents that need servicing. We understand that many clients have valuable furniture, decorations, or items that could be damaged if moved. Therefore, we ask that clients ensure our technicians have clear access to all vents. If access is not provided, we will not be able to service those vents.

Question:

When should I have my dryer vent serviced and cleaned?

The first step in determining if your dryer vent needs servicing is a visual inspection. Check the dryer vent cover on the outside to see if it is partially or fully blocked with lint, which would prevent proper airflow. Additionally, many people notice their dryer vent is clogged when it takes multiple drying cycles to fully dry clothes, or when their dryer has a special indicator for such issues (common in modern dryers).

These are clear signs that it is time to have your dryer vent cleaned.

Important Note: Risk of Fire

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends cleaning your dryer vent annually to reduce the risk of fire. Hundreds of home fires occur each year, particularly in Georgia, due to clogged dryer vents. When the vent is blocked, lint buildup can become a significant fire hazard. The heat from the dryer can cause the lint to ignite, potentially setting your dryer and parts of your home on fire.

Question:

What is the cost of having my dryer vent cleaned?

Several factors influence the cost and duration of dryer vent cleaning services, including:

  • Accessibility (especially if a high ladder is required or the exit is through the roof)

  • Length of the dryer duct (an additional charge applies if the duct is longer than 15 feet)

  • Whether the service can be performed from the outside dryer vent cover (the typical method), or if it’s necessary to service from the inside as well, which includes moving the dryer, disconnecting and cleaning the back duct, reconnecting the duct, and ensuring the dryer is properly placed and functioning.

Contact us for more detailed information, and we’ll be happy to provide you with all the specifics you need.

Question:

Will you remove a bird's nest from my dryer vent?

We love animals and nature, and are committed to protecting them. Therefore, we will not remove an active bird nest. We will only remove a nest if it is empty.

Question:

Is fragrance used during the air duct cleaning process?

Yes, a fragrance component is often included in the sanitizer at no additional cost. If you have any allergies or sensitivities to scents, please inform the technician in advance so that a fragrance-free option can be used.
